in Witney

GAIL's is a bakery and café located in central Newbury, a working market town that makes a convenient stop whether you're travelling to or from the Cotswolds or spending time exploring Berkshire.

You'll notice the smell of freshly baked bread the moment you step inside, and their sourdough is justifiably their signature item—made following traditional methods that shaped the business when it first supplied restaurants before opening its own locations. That baking heritage remains evident in everything they produce. Beyond sourdough, you'll find excellent croissants, cinnamon buns, and cakes worth trying. If you want something more substantial, they make proper sandwiches and salads using good quality ingredients, making it easy to sit down for breakfast, grab lunch quickly, or pick up supplies for the rest of your journey. Newbury itself rewards a bit of exploring if you have time. The Kennet and Avon Canal provides some pleasant walking routes through the area, and the town has enough local history scattered around to make wandering worthwhile.
