A working village two miles north of Witney, Hailey spreads across three distinct neighbourhoods, each with its own flavour.
This is where you experience the Cotswolds as a lived-in place rather than a postcard destination.
The River Windrush flows through the parish, creating some genuinely rewarding walking routes if you want to get out into the landscape. The main village sits conveniently on the road between Witney and Charlbury, keeping it connected without the feeling of being on a busy main road. Poffley End and Delly End each contribute their own character, while the wider parish extends to the small hamlet of New Yatt for those wanting to explore further.
Witney, just down the road, serves as your practical hub for shopping, eating and services. The Cotswold Water Park is also within reasonable driving distance if you'd like to combine your visit with that. To the north, Charlbury offers more of the traditional Cotswolds high street experience with its established local identity.
It works well as a base if you're after a less touristy stay while still having easy access to good walking country. The river valley genuinely rewards spending time exploring on foot, and the three neighbourhoods give you plenty of reason to wander and discover how things actually work in this corner of Oxfordshire.
