Ducklington is a small village of around 1,600 people situated just south of Witney along the River Windrush, making it a convenient stopping point when you're exploring West Oxfordshire.
The location offers the best of both worlds—you're close enough to Witney's shops and services to pop over in minutes, yet far enough away that you're genuinely in the countryside.
The village centre is worth spending an hour wandering around. St Bartholomew's Church is the main landmark, a medieval structure that reflects the village's historical significance. The Windrush itself provides a pleasant walk, and if you're interested in wildlife or simply enjoy following a river through its valley, the waterside paths are rewarding.
Ducklington works well as a base for exploring the wider area. Witney, just a mile north, has all the facilities you might need plus several good pubs and interesting heritage related to its blanket-making industry. Other towns like Burford, Chipping Norton, and Minster Lovell are within easy driving distance and make for natural day trips.
The village itself doesn't have major attractions, so it's best viewed as part of a broader itinerary rather than a destination in its own right. What makes it valuable is the chance to experience genuine village life in the Cotswolds away from the crowds and commercialism of more popular spots. If you're seeking something quieter and more grounded, this is worth your time.
