in Selsley

This section of the Cotswold Way across Selsley Common delivers exactly what you're after if you want space and air around you.

easy

The walk takes you over ancient open access land where you can really stretch your legs and feel the landscape open up, with expansive views stretching across the Severn Vale and often reaching as far as the Black Mountains in Wales on clearer days.

As you make your way across the common, you'll notice the prehistoric burial mounds dotting the terrain—subtle rises in the ground that mark where people lived thousands of years ago. It's one of those walks where there's plenty to observe while you're moving, whether that's the different bird species you might spot or simply taking in the scale of everything around you.

Kings Stanley, the village you'll likely pass through or start from, still carries traces of its past as a wool-processing centre and makes a sensible place to begin your route or grab something to eat afterwards. Both Stonehouse and Stroud are very close by if you need more substantial facilities or transport connections. The whole area rewards a slower pace—it's the kind of walk where you'll find yourself stopping frequently just to look around.
