Up on the rolling hills near Snowshill village sits a working family-run lavender farm where generations have devoted themselves to cultivating this aromatic plant in all its varieties.
From late June through July, sometimes stretching into early August, the fields transform into rolling waves of purple, alive with bees and releasing an intoxicating fragrance that fills the air.
You can wander freely through the extensive rows to appreciate the different varieties and get a real sense of what a commercial lavender operation involves. The farm runs its own distillery on-site, where you'll learn how essential oils are extracted from the plants, and you may even catch the process in action during your visit. It's genuinely absorbing if you're interested in how these things work.
The farm shop stocks a good range of lavender products made from their own harvest, including oils, soaps, honey and culinary items. If you need a break, the tea room offers light refreshments and a chance to sit and reflect on what you've seen. This makes for a straightforward and enjoyable stop if you're exploring the northern Cotswolds, particularly when combined with nearby towns like Broadway or Chipping Campden. The farm delivers something a bit different from the usual village exploration, and the smell alone gives it plenty of character.
