Charles Wade gave over every room of this manor to his collection — more than 20,000 objects, from musical instruments and armour to Samurai suits, toys and textiles — and lived himself in the small cottage opposite, now the Priest’s House.
Nothing is labelled and the rooms are deliberately dim, left arranged as Wade had them rather than rehung as a museum would.
Allow two to three hours. The manor is a 500-metre uphill walk from the car park, and entry is by timed ticket issued on arrival rather than booked ahead, so slots can run out on a busy day. There is an Arts and Crafts terraced garden and the Priest’s House besides. The Cotswold Way runs three-quarters of a mile away.
