This small settlement sits between Cheltenham and the Forest of Dean, offering a quieter alternative to the busier parts of the Cotswolds.

The hamlet itself is primarily residential, with stone cottages and farmland making up the landscape, though it works well as a base for exploring the wider countryside.

The real draw is what surrounds it. You're well positioned for walks through working farmland and woodland, with several footpaths connecting to broader networks across the region. The Forest of Dean is only a short drive away, with everything from hiking trails to historic sites worth visiting. Cheltenham, just a few miles north, has cultural attractions, excellent restaurants, and the famous racecourse if you're here during festival season.

Abbots Wood also has connections to modern British business history—it's where Julian Marc Dunkerton, co-founder of the fashion label Superdry, is based. While that's not a major tourist draw in itself, it shows how the area balances rural tradition with contemporary life.

For most visitors, this works best as a base rather than a destination in its own right. Stay in one of the local properties and use it as a launching point for Forest of Dean adventures, then enjoy the peace that comes with being away from the main tourist routes. The surrounding countryside rewards exploration, whether you're keen on serious walking or simply driving through to take in the landscape.
