This small village sits right along the Cotswold Way, making it an excellent stop if you're walking the full 102-mile trail or just exploring this section of the Cotswold Edge.
The village itself is modest but serves as a useful base for understanding the landscape around you. You'll find traditional stone cottages scattered along quiet lanes, and the surrounding countryside offers genuine walking territory rather than manicured attractions.
The main draw here is access to the escarpment views and the footpath itself, which was officially designated as a National Trail in 2007. Many walkers use Pirton as a stopping point between longer stretches, and it's genuinely worth pausing to look around. The village gives you a sense of how people actually live in the Cotswolds rather than just passing through.
Practically speaking, Pirton is positioned between larger towns like Gloucester to the west and Cheltenham to the east, both about thirty minutes away by car. If you're without transport, the nearest facilities for shops and refreshments are in nearby Painswick, which is close enough for a short walk. The village works best as part of a wider walking itinerary rather than a destination in itself, but that's precisely its appeal if you want to experience the Cotswold Way as it was meant to be experienced.
