This National Trust property overlooks the Warwickshire landscape near Upper Tysoe and gives you a genuine sense of how wealthy people lived during the early twentieth century.

In the 1920s, Lord Bearsted, a prominent banker with a serious passion for collecting art, extensively remodelled the house to display his remarkable collection. As you move through the rooms, you'll see Dutch, Flemish, and English Old Master paintings displayed alongside fine porcelain and tapestries, arranged much as Bearsted himself would have organized them. The house also has an interesting wartime story—during the Second World War it temporarily housed the Warburg Institute, adding yet another chapter to its past.

The gardens are genuinely worth exploring. They step down in a series of terraces, opening onto expansive lawns, colourful herbaceous borders, and a working kitchen garden. The layout shows real care and attention, and from various points you get sweeping views across the Vale of the Red Horse. The paths throughout are pleasant for a leisurely stroll, and there's a café where you can stop for tea or coffee whenever you need a break. The location works well if you're visiting Shipston-on-Stour or travelling between Stratford-upon-Avon and Banbury.
