Bridleway to Shenington Airfield On the map the bridleway runs along the upper edge of the field but in practice it seems to run across the middle towards the opening in the hedge. The trees on the right run along the line of a small stream.

Starting from Upton House, a National Trust property near Upper Tysoe, the Shenington Round is a circular walk that pairs a good stretch through Warwickshire countryside with a chance to explore a house full of real treasures.

The main draw inside is the art collection assembled by the Bearsted family in the early 20th century, featuring Dutch, Flemish, and British works that have been carefully preserved. Beyond the paintings, the terraced gardens behind the house are worth spending time in, dropping away with good views and a genuinely peaceful atmosphere.

The walk itself takes you out into rolling fields and quiet lanes, giving you a genuine sense of this part of the Cotswolds borderlands before bringing you back to base. Once you've finished, there's a café at Upton House for refreshments and basic facilities. If you're after something more substantial, Shipston-on-Stour and Banbury are both within reasonable reach and have proper shops and restaurants. The whole experience works well whether you prefer to do the walk first and then explore the house, or vice versa, depending on how much energy and time you have available. It's the kind of outing where you can make it as relaxed or as active as suits you on the day.
