This coaching inn sits atop Rodborough Common and commands views across the Golden Valley that make the journey worthwhile whether you're just passing through or settling in for longer.

The Bear has been serving visitors for centuries and continues to offer solid food, from traditional pub fare to more ambitious cooking, plus a good selection of drinks to enjoy while you take in the landscape.

The views are really the main attraction here. On clear days you can see across miles of valley from the grounds, and because you're positioned right on the common itself, it works equally well as a starting point before a walk or as a pleasant place to rest afterwards. The common itself is open and spacious, and you'll regularly see cattle grazing which gives the whole setting an authentic character. If you want to explore beyond the immediate area, Minchinhampton Common and the villages around it are all close by.

Being just a short drive from Stroud keeps it accessible for a spontaneous outing, yet it's far enough out to feel genuinely removed from everyday hustle. The staff create a genuinely welcoming atmosphere, and the whole place has an unhurried, friendly feel that tends to make people want to stay longer than they'd originally planned.
