This small village sits in the Frome Valley, just southeast of Stroud in Gloucestershire, and it's genuinely worth your time if you're willing to explore at a relaxed pace.

The character here comes from real history rather than being designed for visitors.

Thrupp developed around the cloth mills that once sustained the local economy, and you can still read that past in the stone buildings and the waterway running through the village. The Stroudwater Canal winds through the area and has become a popular route for walkers and cyclists. The towpath itself is a pleasant walk, and if you visit in warmer months you're likely to see narrowboats moving through.

You'll find a good selection of local pubs and cafes where you can get an authentic feel for village life. The countryside around here is accessible too, with footpaths heading out into the wider Frome Valley. If industrial heritage or textile history interests you, being close to Stroud means you can visit the museum collections and heritage sites there for more detailed context.

Thrupp works best as part of exploring the Stroud area rather than as a standalone destination. It's well connected by regular buses and positioned conveniently between Stroud town centre and the villages deeper in the Cotswolds, making it a sensible base for discovering this less-visited part of the region.
