Spring sensations

in Westonbirt

Illustration — photo coming soon

Just a short drive from Tetbury and Malmesbury, this renowned arboretum is a wonderful place to experience spring at its best in the Cotswolds.

The grounds hold an impressive collection of trees and shrubs gathered from around the world, and they come alive when the seasons turn.

When spring arrives, you'll find yourself surrounded by colour and movement. You can walk through avenues of cherry blossom, take in the vibrant reds and pinks of rhododendrons and azaleas, and pause to admire the elegant magnolias. The experience really does engage all your senses – fresh scents drift through the air, and you'll notice the activity of birds and insects returning to the trees. Miles of trails wind through the grounds, so you can choose between a gentle stroll or a more substantial walk to discover everything on offer.

The Stihl Treetop Walkway is particularly worth seeking out, giving you a chance to look out over the canopy and watch new leaves unfurling above your head. The arboretum itself has real depth to it, with roots going back to Victorian times when the Holford family began collecting these specimens. What you're walking through is essentially a living library of trees from across the globe. Whether you're interested in plants, photography, or simply want to spend time in beautiful surroundings breathing in fresh air, there's plenty to appreciate here.
