The Smokehouse is a cafe tucked within Westonbirt Arboretum, serving as a proper refuelling stop whether you're planning a full day among the trees or just popping in for a couple of hours.
You can grab coffee, cold drinks, light meals, snacks, and cakes here—nothing fancy, just what you need when you're out exploring.
The real appeal is where it sits. You're surrounded by one of the world's most important tree collections, started by Robert Stayner Holford in the mid-19th century and now run by Forestry England. The arboretum itself is genuinely worth your time, with everything from the formal Torkes area to the ancient woodland of Silk Wood, so there's plenty to wander through between cafe visits. You can easily lose hours moving between these different sections, then come back here to eat before heading out again.
The cafe does its job well enough, but honestly it's the botanical setting that stays with you. Eating surrounded by these global treasures adds something you wouldn't get anywhere else.
If you want to make a fuller day of it, Tetbury is just a short drive away and has loads of antique shops and genuine character worth exploring. Malmesbury, with its historic abbey, is equally close and works well either as a separate trip or combined with a visit here.
