This nature reserve sits just outside Somerford Keynes, offering a genuinely peaceful corner of the Cotswold Water Park to explore.

The landscape here revolves around water and wetland—reedbeds, open pools, and the birds that depend on them. Much of the water park itself originated from old gravel workings that have transformed into valuable habitats over the decades, and Sandpool Farm has been actively managed to support that wildlife.

You'll find a good network of walking paths threading through the reserve, suitable for anything from a short stroll to a couple of hours of birdwatching. What you'll encounter depends on the season, but waterfowl are fairly reliable, and you might spot wading birds too if you're there at the right time. It's the kind of place that encourages you to slow down and actually notice what's happening around you—which tends to be the most rewarding part of a visit.

The reserve sits within easy reach of South Cerney and Ashton Keynes, both very close by, and Cirencester is only a short drive if you're staying there and want to escape to somewhere quieter. You don't need much planning to visit—just bring an hour or so and a willingness to spend time in the landscape.
