This is home to one of the world's most important collections of trees and shrubs, assembled from across the globe over more than a century.
It's genuinely rewarding to spend time here, whether you're a dedicated botanist or simply after a pleasant country walk. The varied topography means you can tailor your route to suit your energy levels, and there's a fantastic elevated walkway that takes you up into the canopy itself, offering perspectives you simply won't get from ground level. The colours shift dramatically with the seasons, from fiery autumn tones to the fresh growth of spring.
The landscape was originally designed in the mid-1800s by Robert Stayner Holford and developed into the impressive Victorian garden you see today. Forestry England now manages the site, ensuring the collection is both preserved and continually expanded. A visitor centre, café, and shop are on the grounds, so you can easily spend a full day here without needing to venture elsewhere. The location also works well for combining activities. Tetbury and Malmesbury are just a short drive away, making it simple to fit in time at either of these market towns for lunch or to explore their own attractions before or after your visit.
