Just a short drive from Tetbury, this Victorian-era arboretum houses one of the most impressive tree collections in the region, with over 15,000 specimens gathered from across the globe.
You can easily spend a full day walking through the different sections, each organized to showcase particular plant families and geographic origins, which gives you a real sense of botanical diversity without ever leaving the Cotswolds.
Autumn is genuinely worth timing your visit around, when the canopy transforms into brilliant reds, oranges, and golds. There's a treetop walkway that lets you experience the forest from an entirely different perspective, rising up into the canopy for views you simply can't get from ground level. The arboretum also runs educational displays about tree conservation, and you'll come across plenty of rare species that you'd struggle to see anywhere else in the UK.
It works equally well as a peaceful break from exploring nearby market towns like Tetbury and Malmesbury, a family outing where there's always something new to discover, or simply a place to spend time outside without any particular plan. The variety of paths means you can tailor your visit to however much time you have available, whether that's an hour or a full afternoon.
