One of the most rewarding stops in the Cotswolds is the Acer Glade at Westonbirt Arboretum, located near Tetbury.

This section of the arboretum holds an exceptional collection of maple trees that truly shine when autumn arrives, transforming the landscape into a stunning display of reds, oranges, and golds. Whether you're here with a camera or simply settling onto one of the benches to absorb the colours, it's genuinely striking.

The arboretum has an interesting backstory. It was established in the 1850s by Robert Holford, who began it as a personal venture to cultivate rare tree specimens from across the globe. That original enthusiasm for horticulture has evolved into the serious collection you encounter today, with miles of clearly marked walking paths threading through the grounds. Beyond the maple glade, there's a treetop walkway that offers an entirely fresh way to experience the landscape, giving you a completely different angle on the trees and surroundings.

The location works well as part of a broader day out. Tetbury, a working market town just minutes away, has a genuine character with numerous antique dealers and restaurants worth exploring. The arboretum itself is straightforward to find—just follow the signs off the A433. Whether you're a keen gardener, a tree enthusiast, or someone who simply enjoys time outdoors, this deserves at least a morning or afternoon of your visit.
