If you're looking to spend a day surrounded by an incredible variety of trees from around the world, this is truly worth the visit.

What began in the mid-19th century as Robert Stayner Holford's private collection has developed into one of the most significant arboretums anywhere, now managed by Forestry England. Walking paths take you through distinct sections like the Old Arboretum, where mature specimens command attention, and Silk Wood, which feels more like natural woodland.

The collection spans an astonishing range of species, from ancient native trees like the Scots pine to exotic imports from distant climates, each offering something different as the seasons change. Spring brings beautiful rhododendrons and magnolias into bloom, while autumn transforms the landscape into a spectacular display of colour, particularly from the celebrated maples. The Stihl Treetop Walkway gives you a unique vantage point high among the canopies and is definitely worth experiencing. Whether you're after a leisurely walk, a family day out, or quiet time in nature, this place works well for all of them. There's a café and shop on site, and the nearby towns of Tetbury and Malmesbury are just a short drive away if you want to grab lunch or explore more of what the surrounding area has to offer.
