When you're exploring the southern edges of the Cotswolds, you'll want to spend a proper amount of time at this world-class tree collection.

It's genuinely extraordinary – home to thousands of different trees and shrubs from across the globe, making it one of the UK's most important arboreta. You can easily lose hours wandering the well-maintained grounds, discovering rare species and ancient specimens, or simply watching how the landscape shifts through the seasons. Autumn is particularly striking, when the maples and acers put on a real display of colour.

The Stihl Treetop Walkway is a genuine highlight, giving you the chance to experience the canopy from up high in a completely different way. There are various walking routes available depending on what suits you – gentle paths through The Old Arboretum if you prefer an easy pace, or more natural trails through Silk Wood for something with a bit more character. The collection started in the mid-1800s when Robert Stayner Holford, a wealthy landowner with a genuine passion for plants, began establishing it here. It's evolved considerably since then and is now run with conservation and public access in mind. Whether you're after a peaceful walk, a family outing, or just want to appreciate nature at this scale, it delivers on all counts. Tetbury, the nearby market town, is convenient for refreshments before or after you visit.
