A cluster of villages spreads across the scenic Frome Valley, just a few miles southeast of Stroud.

The area takes in Chalford itself along with Chalford Hill, France Lynch, Bussage and Brownshill, each with distinct character within the surrounding Cotswold landscape. The valley earned the name Golden Valley for good reason—it's a beautiful stretch of countryside that rewards walkers and explorers. You'll find traditional village life on display here, with plenty of local history to discover if you're interested in how these communities developed. The walking routes through the valley are particularly rewarding, taking you through farmland and past stone cottages that reveal how people have lived in this corner of the Cotswolds over centuries. If you're simply after a quiet spot to absorb the rural atmosphere away from busier tourist areas, the Golden Valley delivers that too. Stroud itself is close enough for supplies and amenities, making this a good base for a few days of gentle exploration.
