Hawling sits quietly in the heart of the Cotswolds, about ten miles south of Cheltenham and within easy reach of better-known spots like Bourton-on-the-Water and Guiting Power.

With a population of around 224, the village feels genuinely lived-in rather than designed for tourists, which gives it real character if you're after somewhere authentic.

The main draw is the cluster of historic buildings at the village centre. The church is worth spending time in, and you'll find an Elizabethan manor house and the old Rectory nearby, all carefully preserved and listed. These buildings speak to Hawling's long history as a working agricultural community, though these days it's considerably quieter than it once was.

Don't expect shops or restaurants within Hawling itself—it works best as part of a broader exploration of the surrounding area. Use it as a base for walking, or combine a visit with nearby villages where you'll find more amenities and services. The countryside around here is excellent for rambling, with stone walls, open fields, and the distinctive Cotswolds landscape you can enjoy without battling crowds. It's the kind of place that rewards a slow approach rather than a quick stop.
