Grittleton is a small Wiltshire village situated about six miles northwest of Chippenham, making it a good stop if you're spending time in the wider Cotswolds area.

It's the kind of place that gives you a genuine sense of rural English life, with a village green at its heart where you'll find locals going about their day.

The real appeal of Grittleton is how it opens up to the surrounding landscape. The parish spreads across several hamlets—Foscote, Leigh Delamere, Littleton Drew, and Sevington—each providing quiet spots for walking and exploring the countryside. The Gauze Brook runs through the eastern part of the parish as a tributary of the Avon, offering pleasant waterside paths if you fancy a gentle walk.

The M4 motorway does cut through the southern section of the parish, which gives you straightforward road access but also means some areas pick up traffic noise. If you're after a quieter experience, head north towards Littleton Drew where you'll be well away from the motorway.

What sets Grittleton apart is that it's genuinely local rather than a major tourist draw, which means you get an authentic feel for village life without the crowds. It works well either as a base for exploring Chippenham and the countryside around it, or as a peaceful break during a longer trip through the Cotswolds.
