This small Gloucestershire village sits along the River Coln, surrounded by the rolling countryside that defines the Cotswolds.

It's genuinely quiet—you'll hear birdsong and water rather than traffic—though you're never far from larger towns like Northleach or Cirencester if you need shops or restaurants.

The village itself consists of traditional stone cottages set within a working landscape rather than being shaped around tourism, which is actually much of its appeal. You can walk along the river, which rewards a visit in any season, and explore the surrounding countryside on foot. The parish includes several smaller hamlets—Coln Rogers, Winson, and Calcot—each worth exploring if you're interested in how rural Cotswold settlements developed over time.

There's considerable history woven through the place. The Fosse Way, that famous Roman road connecting Exeter to Lincoln, runs along the parish boundary as the A429. It's the kind of location where you're literally standing on ancient routes while surrounded by medieval and Georgian buildings. The church is worth visiting if you find it open, as these village churches often contain surprising details and local history within.

This works best as a walking base rather than a destination in itself. Come for peaceful countryside time rather than expecting extensive facilities, and you'll find it genuinely restorative. It's the sort of village you discover almost by chance and remember afterward.
