This stone village spreads across a wide valley where the River Windrush flows right through its heart, roughly four miles south of Moreton-in-Marsh.

A succession of low bridges crosses the shallow water, and on sunny days you'll find people wading and paddling, which gives the whole place a relaxed, welcoming feel.

The village grew up as a coaching stop and mill town, and that history remains visible in the buildings along the main street. Stone structures house shops, cafes, and restaurants, while the parish church, with its Norman origins, sits on higher ground watching over everything below. Beyond the main attractions, you'll find a motor museum devoted to vintage cars, plus several galleries and antique shops that reward a bit of browsing.

What sets this village apart is how genuinely accessible it feels. The shallow river practically invites you to explore, the centre is small enough to navigate on foot, and there's no shortage of places to stop and eat. Families gravitate here, which means it does get crowded during summer weekends and school holidays, but if you're after some space you can head out into the surrounding countryside. Good walking routes lead away from the village towards the valleys beyond, and most of what you need sits within the conservation area around the High Street.
