Batsford

This small hamlet sits just northwest of Moreton-in-Marsh and works well as a detour if you're travelling through the eastern Cotswolds.

The village itself is quiet and understated, but the real reason to stop here is the attractions on its doorstep.

Batsford Arboretum is the main reason people come, spreading across grounds high on the Cotswold escarpment with expansive views stretching out across the landscape below. The collection of trees and shrubs is genuinely impressive, with plenty of walking paths to explore at your own pace. The grounds shift noticeably through the seasons, so spring brings flowering trees while autumn offers rich colour—there's usually something worth the visit whenever you go. You can easily spend a couple of hours wandering around without rushing.

The Falconry Centre is another popular stop, with displays and demonstrations of birds of prey. Even if you skip the flying experiences, watching the birds in action gives you a real sense of how remarkable they are.

Being close to Moreton-in-Marsh means you can easily combine a visit here with time in that larger market town, which has decent shops, cafes, and restaurants. The location sits well on walking routes too, so you might pass through while covering the broader Cotswold countryside. It's not a destination for a full day on its own, but it's definitely worth a stop if you're nearby.
