Bakery on the Hill is an artisan bakery and café at 53 High Street in Burford, part of the Little Bakery Company, whose roots go back to 1928.
It occupies a listed building that was once a medieval pub, and behind it is a sunny courtyard for eating outside. Its sister bakery in Bourton-on-the-Water is Bakery on the Water.
Bread and pastries are baked fresh every day and can be collected throughout the day. The café serves breakfast, from a full English to pastries or cereal and fruit with locally roasted coffee, followed by a lunch menu, afternoon tea and cakes; everything on the menu can also be taken away. There is no need to book, well-behaved dogs are welcome, and the bakery describes itself as wheelchair-friendly.
As well as the café, the bakery runs baking classes and makes celebration cakes to order.
It sits on the town's sloping High Street, about 160 metres from the Tolsey Museum, with the River Windrush at the foot of the hill. Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens is a short drive south of Burford, about 4 kilometres away.
