Ashton Under Hill

This small Worcestershire village sits at the foot of Bredon Hill, one of the Cotswolds' most distinctive landmarks.

The hill rises dramatically from the surrounding Vale of Evesham, offering walkers genuinely rewarding routes with far-reaching views across multiple counties once you reach the top. The summit is marked by Parsons Folly, a small stone tower built in the 1750s as a summer house retreat for a local landowner. It's a pleasant enough walk up there, and the views justify the effort, especially on clearer days.

The village itself is modest and largely residential, but it serves as a natural starting point for exploring Bredon Hill's slopes and the countryside around it. The hill extends across several parishes, so there's scope for longer circular walks if you're looking for a more substantial outing. The geology here is particularly interesting too—though Bredon now stands isolated in the Vale, it remains geologically part of the Cotswolds and falls within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Nearby Evesham, just a few miles north, has more substantial shops and amenities if you need them. Most people come to Ashton Under Hill specifically for the walking, though it's also a quiet retreat away from busier tourist routes while still offering you proper Cotswolds scenery and heritage.
