This working village in the northern Cotswolds sits between Tewkesbury and Evesham with a population of around 1,200 people.

It's genuinely small—the kind of place where life unfolds at its own rhythm and regulars at the local pub or shop become familiar faces.

St Margaret's Church anchors the village center and traces its roots back to medieval times, with architectural details worth examining if church history appeals to you. Beyond the village itself, the countryside follows the classic Cotswolds pattern: rolling fields divided by dry stone walls and walking routes that meander through farmland without any sense of being on a well-trodden tourist trail.

The location works well for exploring further afield. Tewkesbury's impressive abbey and riverside setting lie just six miles away. Evesham, known for its market gardens and river position, sits seven and a half miles south. If you're after the busier atmosphere and wider range of shops and cafes, Stow-on-the-Wold is fifteen miles east.

Alderton won't occupy you for several days on its own, which rather suits its character. It works best as a peaceful base if you're exploring the wider region, or as a genuine village experience if you're staying nearby. The B4077 runs straight through, keeping you connected to everything the area offers without feeling isolated.
