Luckington sits in the southern Cotswolds where Wiltshire and Gloucestershire meet, about six miles west of Malmesbury.

It's one of those places you might wander through by accident rather than plan a visit to, which is exactly why it works so well. There's real appeal in a village that doesn't try too hard.

The heart of the village revolves around St Mary the Virgin Church, which tells you something about how long people have lived here. Beyond that you'll find the typical stone cottages and surrounding farmland that define this landscape. The countryside around Luckington is genuinely rewarding for walking, with lanes heading out towards Alderton and the smaller settlements beyond. If you're cycling, the B4040 cuts through reasonably well, though you'll want to stay alert for farm vehicles and the odd cow blocking the road.

Luckington really shines as part of a wider day out rather than a destination on its own. Malmesbury is close by and gives you the abbey, market square, and the kind of shops and cafes you might want if you didn't pack lunch. Chipping Sodbury, also accessible via the B4040, adds more eating and shopping options. The village itself has limited amenities, so if you're planning to eat or need supplies, head to Malmesbury first. It's the sort of place for a slow afternoon walk if you prefer the quieter Cotswolds experience, where you're far more likely to see sheep than other visitors.
