This holiday cottage sits right on the banks of the Kennet and Avon Canal in the small hamlet of Honeystreet, offering a peaceful base for exploring this distinctive corner of Wiltshire where the landscape blends into the wider Cotswolds.
The self-catering setup gives you full independence during your stay, with everything needed for comfort.
Step out the door and you're on the canal towpath, where you can walk or cycle at leisure, watching narrowboats pass by. The Barge Inn, a historic pub just a short walk away, sits right alongside the water and has built quite a reputation locally for its lively character and folklore connections – it's perfect for an evening out. Honeystreet itself is small, but the canal that runs through it shaped the area's entire history as a vital transport route back when goods moved by water rather than road.
The surrounding landscape is genuinely ancient and fascinating. Avebury's stone circles and the famous White Horse figures carved into the chalk hillsides are all close enough for a short drive. When you need supplies, Pewsey village is nearby, and if you want more choice for shopping or dining, the market town of Devizes is a bit further afield with a proper historic centre. It's a real spot for soaking up rural life while having easy access to some genuinely significant parts of England's heritage.
