When you're exploring the southern Cotswolds, you'll want to dedicate a good chunk of time to this botanical treasure.
The arboretum, run by the Forestry Commission, holds one of the world's most significant tree collections, with species gathered from every continent. You could easily spend hours here moving between the walking trails, and the Treetop Walkway is genuinely worth the effort—it takes you up high into the canopy for a completely different view of things.
Robert Holford established the grounds back in the mid-1800s, and what started as his vision has evolved into a vital centre for tree conservation. The autumn colours draw most visitors for good reason, but spring blossom and the sheltered summer shade offer their own rewards. You'll spot impressive Western yellow pines among countless other species planted throughout.
Whether you're after a proper walk, bringing the family for the day, or just want somewhere peaceful to sit with nature around you, this place delivers. It's conveniently positioned just a short drive from Tetbury and Malmesbury, both proper market towns that make for good exploring in their own right.
