Upper Draycot is a small hamlet in Wiltshire, located about three miles north of Chippenham within the Cotswolds region.

It's the sort of place you might easily drive past, but that's rather the appeal if you're looking for authentic countryside character away from busier spots.

The hamlet revolves around St Mary the Virgin Church, a modest medieval building that reflects the area's deep roots. The stonework shows its age honestly, worn smooth by centuries of local parishioners coming through its doors. Beyond the church, the landscape opens into farmland dotted with scattered cottages, offering a genuine picture of working rural England.

Upper Draycot's real draw is its tranquility. There are no formal attractions here, and that's entirely intentional. You can wander the country lanes and fields at your leisure, step inside the church if you find it open, and experience the gentler rhythm of village life in the Cotswolds. The hamlet sits well on walking routes connecting through country paths to nearby Sutton Benger and other small settlements, making it more valuable as part of a longer ramble than as a standalone destination.

Chippenham, three miles south, has shops and restaurants when you need them. But if what you're after is a genuine encounter with English rural heritage without any veneer, Upper Draycot offers precisely that.
