Uplands Community Art (Phone) Box

in Rodborough

Illustration — photo coming soon

This tiny gallery in the Uplands neighbourhood of Stroud occupies something genuinely unexpected: a classic red K6 telephone box that's been converted into a working display space for community art.

It's a clever example of what happens when people think creatively about the spaces around them, transforming one of Britain's most recognisable pieces of street furniture into something new.

Inside, you'll find regularly changing exhibitions of work by local artists – paintings, photography, textiles, and small sculptures all sharing this compact but characterful space. Your visit will necessarily be brief, but often genuinely rewarding, and it gives you a real sense of the artistic energy flowing through Stroud. The phone box itself reflects how seriously the town takes its creative community.

Stroud itself is well worth exploring properly once you've visited. It's a working market town with real character, full of independent shops, craft studios, and a thriving Saturday Farmers' Market that brings people from across the region. Sitting at the heart of the Five Valleys, it makes an excellent base for venturing further to places like Nailsworth or Painswick, or simply spending time absorbing Stroud's distinctive artistic atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you can easily spend a day wandering, discovering something interesting around almost every corner.
