Rising from the Cotswold landscape near Stanway, this striking private estate stands out markedly from the region's typical honey-coloured stone buildings.

Built largely in the early 19th century, it was commissioned by Charles Hanbury-Tracy, the 1st Baron Sudeley, who designed it himself with considerable theatrical ambition. The Gothic Revival architecture features dramatic spires and battlements that deliberately evoke a romanticised medieval character, giving the manor a quite distinctive presence in the countryside.

From public roads and footpaths nearby, you'll get clear views of the building's imposing scale and architectural boldness, and it makes for an impressive landmark to spot while exploring the area. However, it's worth knowing upfront that the manor itself is not open to the public. It remains a private residence, currently owned by artist Damien Hirst, with no public access to the grounds or interior. Think of it as something to admire from a distance rather than enter.

If you're keen to explore historic homes and gardens in the area, you'll find plenty of better options nearby. The vibrant village of Broadway is close by with its own attractions, and Winchcombe offers Sudeley Castle, which welcomes visitors and is well worth your time. Either makes an excellent base for experiencing the Cotswolds' heritage properly.
