This is an enormous collection of trees from all over the world spread across woodland that genuinely takes your breath away.

Established in the mid-19th century, it has grown into one of the world's leading centres for tree conservation and research, and is now run by Forestry England.

Walking through the grounds, you'll encounter thousands of different tree species along numerous trails designed for all fitness levels. Whether you're after a gentle stroll through intimate glades or a more demanding walk along broader avenues, there's something to suit you. The standout experience is the Stihl Treetop Walkway, which lets you wander among the canopy and see the forest from an entirely different perspective—genuinely transformative once you're up there.

Autumn is when most visitors arrive to see the colour display, and it's certainly worth the trip then, but each season offers something special. Spring brings flowering trees, while winter transforms the landscape into something altogether different. The site is well-set up for families, with natural play areas and regular events keeping children occupied beyond just looking at trees.

Tetbury, a market town with good facilities, sits just a short drive away and makes a convenient base for eating and sleeping. Malmesbury offers another nearby option if you want to explore further afield. Either way, you'll find this place genuinely absorbs a full day of visiting.
