This remarkable collection of thousands of trees from around the world offers a genuine connection with nature on an impressive scale.
You'll walk among towering Douglas firs—some of the tallest specimens in the country—alongside many other magnificent species gathered from across the globe. The experience unfolds across distinct sections including the ancient Silk Wood and the more formal Old Arboretum, each with its own character and atmosphere. One of the highlights is the elevated walkway, which takes you up into the canopy itself, giving you a perspective you simply can't get from ground level and really helps you appreciate just how vast these trees are.
The arboretum was established in the mid-19th century by Robert Stayner Holford, who devoted himself to collecting and cultivating rare and exotic species. Whether you're after a leisurely walk, a family day out, or simply somewhere peaceful for quiet reflection, there's plenty to occupy you here—most visitors easily spend a full day exploring. The visitor centre provides refreshments and browsing opportunities when you need a break. Located just a short drive from Tetbury, it makes for an easy and worthwhile addition to any Cotswolds visit.
