The Mermaid is a historic pub in the middle of Burford's High Street, about 100 metres from the Tolsey Museum.

The building is listed and centuries old: the pub notes that Historic England records medieval work, including a 14th-century doorway, along with later 17th-century remodelling. After a fire in June 2025 the pub is open again, with stone walls, warm interiors and a courtyard garden.
Food is taken seriously. The kitchen works with a small number of British suppliers, and its beef, pork and chicken all come from The Aurox Meat Company: whole carcasses of beef and Iron Age pork (wild boar crossed with Tamworth) are butchered in the pub's own kitchen, so the cuts become Sunday roasts, the trimmings become burgers and the bones go into the gravy. The menu is seasonal British pub food, Sunday roasts are a speciality, and there are gluten-free options.
The bar keeps a rotating selection of cask ales. The Mermaid welcomes dogs and families, has space for private dining and parties, and tables can be booked online.
