The Five Alls is a traditional village pub in Filkins that functions as an actual community hub rather than a tourist attraction dressed up to look like one.
The name derives from an old English pub sign tradition showing five figures—the King, Soldier, Lawyer, Parson, and Labourer—each humourously claiming to serve "all." You'll typically find locals and visitors mingling naturally here, which gives the place a genuinely lived-in atmosphere.
The menu offers hearty food and local ales, and during winter months there's usually a fire burning that makes the space feel particularly inviting. It works well as a stopping point after exploring the surrounding countryside, or simply as a comfortable spot to settle in with a drink for the evening. Filkins itself rewards a wander—attractive stone buildings and a genuinely quiet character mean there's no sense of performance or staged authenticity.
Locationwise, this is a solid base for exploring the quieter part of the Cotswolds. Burford, a proper historic market town, is a short drive away, as are Lechlade with its riverside setting and Fairford with its impressive church. You're slightly off the main tourist route here without being remote or difficult to reach. It's the kind of place locals actually recommend when they want friends to see something real rather than something packaged.
