Stretton on Fosse sits between Moreton-in-Marsh and Shipston-on-Stour in the heart of the Cotswolds, easily reached via the A429.

What makes this village particularly special is that it grew up directly along the Fosse Way, the ancient Roman road that once ran all the way from Exeter to Lincoln. You're literally walking roads that have carried travellers for nearly two thousand years, which gives the place real historical substance beyond just its appearance.

The landscape around here is worth paying attention to as you explore. The lower ground is clay-based while the higher areas shift to sandier soil, so the walking terrain changes as you move through the countryside, offering nice variety for anyone heading out on foot. Being positioned close to the Gloucestershire border makes it a genuinely useful base if you want to get to know both counties properly. You can potter around the rolling countryside and visit the market towns in the area without committing to one location. It's the kind of place that works well as a stopping point rather than a destination in itself, though the layered history and accessible walking more than justify an afternoon's exploration.
