You'll find Shilton Manor standing at the centre of Shilton village in West Oxfordshire, a fine example of traditional Cotswolds architecture that reflects the area's long history.
The manor is a private home, so you won't be able to step inside, but the exterior is worth seeing as you walk through the village. Its solid stone walls and period features give you a real sense of what has drawn people to this landscape for centuries.
While you're in Shilton, you can explore on foot and take in other village landmarks like the historic church and The Five Alls pub, which together create the unhurried atmosphere the village is known for. A walk along the nearby River Windrush is also pleasant if you want to stretch your legs and see the surrounding countryside.
For things to actually do and visit, you're in a good position to branch out. Burford is just a short drive away and has decent shops, restaurants, and various attractions to spend a few hours on. Lechlade-on-Thames offers another option if you want more choice of activities and places to explore. Either town makes for an easy trip while you're based in this part of the region, giving you flexibility to combine a quiet village visit with more active exploring.
