This riverside campsite sits just outside Bampton, right on the Thames at Rushey Lock, making it an excellent choice if you want to stay close to the water without losing touch with what matters.
You can pitch a tent or park a caravan and settle in for a proper outdoor experience, with the sound of the river as your backdrop. The Thames Path runs alongside the site, giving you direct access to some lovely walking routes – you can head upstream towards Lechlade or downstream depending on your mood and energy levels.
The water itself draws all sorts of activity. You'll regularly see kayakers, paddleboarders, and narrowboats working through the lock, and it's a decent spot for fishing if that's your interest. The campsite keeps things intentionally simple, with basic facilities rather than anything fancy, which means you're genuinely switching off rather than just changing location.
For supplies or a change of scenery, Bampton is only a short drive away and has the sort of village character that might feel familiar if you've watched certain television dramas filmed in the Cotswolds. Slightly further afield, Burford and Witney offer proper towns with shops, pubs, and historical interest if you fancy day trips. All in all, it's a solid base for exploring this stretch of the Thames Valley at an unhurried pace.
