This small Oxfordshire village sits right on the edge of the River Thames, making it an excellent base for exploring the quieter side of the Cotswolds without sacrificing access to the region's main attractions.
The Thames Path runs nearby, offering straightforward walks along the riverbanks where you might spot kingfishers, herons, and other wildlife going about their day.
Little Faringdon itself is genuinely peaceful—the kind of place where you can experience what rural English life actually feels like. Just a short drive away, the market town of Faringdon has stood here for centuries and features the distinctive Folly Tower, built in the eighteenth century and offering proper panoramic views across the countryside. It's worth climbing for the perspective alone. Lechlade-on-Thames, also nearby, gives you riverside pubs and the chance to watch boats heading upriver, or join them if you're inclined.
The Thames has shaped this landscape for centuries. It was the main highway for moving goods and people before roads improved, and that history still feels present in the towns and villages along its course. From here, you're within reach of everything—gentle riverside walks, the rolling hills and stone villages the region is known for, and plenty of cycling routes. It's the kind of location that works as a genuine home base rather than just a place to sleep.
