High on a rise near Purton in Wiltshire, you'll discover Ringsbury Camp.

This impressive site is actually an Iron Age hillfort, a significant defensive structure created by our ancestors long before the Romans arrived. While it holds a historical Roman connection, its roots stretch much further back, with evidence suggesting it was a substantial settlement and stronghold during the Iron Age.

Today, Ringsbury Camp offers a fantastic opportunity for a peaceful walk and a chance to step back in time. You can trace the outlines of the ancient earthwork defences, imagining the lives of those who once lived and protected this spot. From the elevated position, you’ll often find expansive views across the surrounding countryside. It’s a wonderful place to bring a dog or just enjoy some quiet contemplation and fresh air.

Access to the camp is generally straightforward, making it an easy addition to a day out exploring the area. After your visit, you're close to Purton itself, and the small communities of Restrop, Green Hill, and Pavenhill are nearby. Further afield, but still within easy reach, are Lydiard Green, Lydiard Plain, and Church End, offering more chances to explore this lovely part of the Cotswolds.
