Little Somerford

Little Somerford sits in rolling countryside between Malmesbury and Chippenham, offering a genuinely quiet corner of the Cotswolds if you're after something beyond the better-known villages.

The Bristol Avon river winds through the parish, and the Brinkworth Brook feeds into water meadows that shape the landscape around you. Both waterways provide pleasant walking routes if you want to get out and explore on foot.

The village itself doesn't announce itself. You'll come across a modest church and traditional stone cottages dotted along the lanes, all of which speak to centuries of rural Wiltshire life. There aren't formal attractions to tick off, but that's actually what makes it work—it's somewhere to walk, to watch the land, and to find the kind of quiet that doesn't come as easily in the Cotswolds' busier spots.

What really works about Little Somerford is using it as a base. Malmesbury lies a few miles north with its impressive abbey and the feel of an actual working market town. Chippenham to the south has more shops and services if you need them, and functions as a proper transport hub. The Bristol Avon path is good for rambling, and you're well positioned to discover the smaller villages and farmland dotted through this part of Wiltshire. It's a place that pays you back for slow exploration rather than a quick stop.
