This small village sits beside the River Thames in West Oxfordshire, just a couple of miles east of Lechlade.

With a population of around 200 people, it's genuinely tiny, so come here if you want to experience everyday Cotswolds life rather than tourist attractions.

The main reason most visitors come is Kelmscott Manor, a 16th-century farmhouse that belonged to William Morris, the influential designer and craftsman of the Arts and Crafts movement. You can tour the house to see how Morris lived and worked, with original furnishings and textiles on display. It gives real insight into Victorian artistic thinking and his philosophy about making beautiful everyday objects. The manor is only open to the public on certain days, so check ahead before visiting.

Beyond the manor, the village itself is worth a quiet wander. The Thames flows nearby, offering gentle riverside walks, and the surrounding countryside is perfect for exploring on foot or by bike. The village church is worth a look if you're passing through.

Kencot works best as part of a broader Cotswolds trip. Lechlade, just west across the border in Gloucestershire, has more facilities and makes a convenient base. The peaceful pace here is the real appeal, especially if you're interested in Morris or simply want to escape busier areas.
