Standing on the Cotswold escarpment here gives you the kind of sweeping views that really bring home just how vast this landscape is.

A topograph on site helps you make sense of what you're seeing: the River Severn winding through the valley below, the broad Severn Vale stretching away, the distinctive profile of the Malvern Hills, and on a clear day, you can even pick out the Black Mountains across the Welsh border and the Forest of Dean to the west.

The spot carries some real history. An Iron Age hillfort once occupied this location, and you can still trace the earthworks around the beacon as you wander about. Over time it's become a natural gathering place for walkers—whether you're on a gentle stroll or following the Cotswold Way as it passes directly over the beacon, you'll often spot locals with dogs or simply people taking in the peace and quiet. It's a good place to bring a picnic and spend some time just breathing in the open air and watching the landscape unfold.

You'll need a car to get here, and there's parking nearby. It's only a short drive from either Stroud or Gloucester, so it works well as part of a wider day out in the area. The walk itself is accessible and not demanding, making it something most people can manage regardless of fitness level.
