Ginko is the visitor information hub at Westonbirt, The National Arboretum, and it's your best starting point when you arrive.
You'll find it right at the entrance in the main visitor area, where the team can hand you maps, let you know what's on that day, and suggest walking routes tailored to what you're interested in — whether that's sticking to accessible paths or tracking down specific tree species.
Westonbirt Arboretum itself is genuinely impressive. Robert Holford established it in the mid-19th century, and it later passed to what's now Forestry England, who opened it to the public. Stretching across more than 600 acres with around 15,000 trees from across the world, there's easily enough here to spend a full day exploring. You can walk for miles through various trails, moving between downs and glades while discovering an extraordinary range of plant life. The treetop walkway is genuinely worth the visit for a completely different perspective among the branches. Autumn brings brilliant colour changes, though the arboretum stays beautiful throughout the year.
When you need a break from the trees, the market town of Tetbury is just a short drive away if you fancy some shops and restaurants. Malmesbury, which has a historic abbey, is also conveniently close by if you want to explore further afield.
