Fulwell is a small hamlet strung along the River Windrush, where golden limestone cottages sit scattered among rolling fields and dry stone walls.

The river here is genuinely worth lingering by—it's peaceful for a walk, and the water meadows beside it fill with wildflowers and visiting birds depending on the season. The landscape around you barely registers as changed from centuries past, with field patterns and farmland that speak to the area's deep agricultural roots.

There's no real village centre here with shops or restaurants, which is exactly why many people value it. If you need supplies or want to eat out, Stow-on-the-Wold is only a few miles away and has everything from pubs to antique shops. Fulwell works best as a base for walking rather than a destination in itself. Good footpaths connect to surrounding villages and follow the river valley, making it straightforward to explore on foot for an hour or a full day. The appeal is in experiencing the Cotswolds without the crowds—if you arrive early, you'll often have the valley nearly to yourself and the best chance of spotting wildlife. It's the sort of place that rewards a slower pace.
