Foxholes

This tiny hamlet sits in the Evenlode valley southeast of Stow-on-the-Wold, surrounded by some of the Cotswolds' most unspoilt countryside.

You won't find shops or services here – that's rather the point. It's a place to experience the landscape itself, especially if you're interested in walking or wildlife.

The main draw is Foxholes, a woodland nature reserve that slopes down to the River Evenlode. It's managed for conservation and offers genuine interest throughout the year as habitats change with the seasons. The mix of woodland and riverside provides good opportunities to spot birds, insects, and plants depending on when you visit. Walking trails here connect naturally with the broader network of paths across the valley, so you can easily extend a visit into a longer ramble through the surrounding countryside.

The hamlet is socially linked to nearby Bledington village, which has a pub and other basic amenities – worth knowing if you need refreshment. Kingham sits less than two miles away and has a railway station if you're arriving by train. The whole area falls within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and that designation reflects the genuine character of the place. This is proper working countryside rather than a tourist attraction, so come expecting rural authenticity and come prepared for outdoor activities. Bring sturdy footwear and a willingness to spend time exploring on foot.
